Saigon Railway Station is one of the major railway stations in Vietnam, located in District 3 of Ho Chi Minh City, about 1 km from the city center. Saigon Station is the final station on the North–South railway line and serves as the southern terminus of Vietnam’s railway network.
It is one of the most important stations on the North–South railway because it acts as the main transportation hub for the Southern region, connecting travelers to the Central and Northern provinces. The current Saigon Station is different from the Saigon Station that existed during the French colonial period and the era of the Republic of Vietnam.

History of Saigon Railway Station
The original Saigon Railway Station was built by the French near the area that is now September 23 Park, close to Ben Thanh Market. The station was officially inaugurated in 1885. From this location, railway lines extended in several directions, including the Saigon – My Tho, Saigon – Loc Ninh, and Saigon – Hanoi routes.
In 1978, as part of an urban planning and redevelopment policy by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, the Saigon Station operations were moved toward the Binh Trieu Railway Station area. At the same time, the former Hoa Hung freight station was upgraded and renovated to become the present-day passenger station known as Saigon Railway Station.
In November 1983, the current Saigon Railway Station officially began operations and passenger services.
